EST Alustuseks pean ütlema, et 1 nädal ei ole kohe kindlasti piisav selle eksperimendi jaoks. Selle aja jooksul ei jõua inimene enda elus midagi drastiliselt muuta ja ega erilisi muutusi ei märka ka nii lühikese ajaga. Tasub ka mainida, et just selle pärast oli nii öelda sohki teha oli ka väga kerge (seletan rohkem allpool). Kui keegi teine tahab kunagi sarnast eksperimenti teha, siis soovitan kindlasti selleks vähemalt 1 kuu võtta. Mida pikem aeg, seda parem! Nädal algas sellega, et käisime paari projekti liikmega Eesti Pandipakendis. Seal räägiti meile rohkem sellest, mida Eesti Pandipakend teeb ning kuidas ümbertöötlemise süsteem täpsemalt toimib Sain teada seda, et plastpudeleid tehakse sellisteks plastpudeliteks, nagu me poes näeme, alles seal tehases, kus toode valmib. Põhjuseks on see, et kui tühje plastpudeleid transporditakse, siis ei ole mõtet õhku transportida. (Pilt sellest, millised näevad plastpudelid enne toote (vedeliku) sisestamist välja.) Plastpudel võib saada elu uue plastpudelina, kuid huvitav on see, et tühjast plastpudelist võib teha ka graanuleid, mis tehakse helvesteks, mida siis omakorda saab teha ka riidematerjaliks. Sellest riidematerjalist valmivad spordisärgid, fliispusad, tolmuimejakotid või siis ka kaelapaelad. Huvitav fakt on see, et ühe spordisärgi tegemiseks kulub vaid 7 plastpudelit (https://eestipandipakend.ee/huvitavaid-fakte/). (Pildil 3 erinevat anumat (helbed, graanulid ja riidematerjal) ning kaelapael) Minu jaoks huvitav fakt oli ka see, et plekkpurke saab lõpmatuseni taaskasutada. Saime ka tuuri Eesti Pandipakendi tehasest, kus meile näidati igasuguseid erinevaid sorteerimisvõimalusi ja muid võimsaid masinaid. (Pildil on masin, mis sorteerib erinevat värvi klaaspudelid ära.) (Pildil on kokku pressitud plastpudelid.) PS! Mainin seda ka siin, kuna olen näinud, et väga paljud inimesed teevad taarat viies just seda valesti. Kui sa viid pudeleid taaraautomaati, siis JÄTA KINDLASTI KORK PEALE! Eksperimendist siis täpsemalt. Nädala alguses võtsin endale paar eesmärki, mida ma tahtsin kindlasti täita: 1) Ei osta mõtetuid emotsioonioste, mis minu jaoks tavaliselt tähendab just erinevate snäkkide ostmist. 2) Kui käin süüa ostmas, siis üritan hoiduda pakenditest. 3) Kannan kaasas enda termost ja veepudelit! 4) Käin vähemalt ühe korra turul süüa ostmas. 5) Üritan jälgida ka seda, mida ülejäänud inimesed minu ümber teevad. Tuleb öelda, et enda eesmärkide täitmisega sain ma üpriski hästi hakkama. Võtame üks haaval: 1) Emotsiooniostud - Ma suutsin hoiduda igapäevastest emotsiooniostudest, kuid mainin ära, et ühe suure šokolaadi ma siiski ostsin. See on minu jaoks väga suur asi, kuna ma tavaliselt ostan snäkke põhimõtteliselt IGA PÄEV! Igasuguste šokolaadide, kommide ja erinevate soolaste snäkkide asemel, käisin ühe korra enda anumaga balti jaama turult pähkleid ostmas (ma olen siiski ülikooli tudeng ja närve on vaja kuidagi rahustada). 2) Söögi ostmisega ma natukene tegingi sohki, aga enne kui te mind hukka mõistate, las ma seletan! Mu õde ja ema ise kutsusid mind enda juurde sööma, mina neile seda ideed ei andnud. Selle terve nädala jooksul ma tegin ise reaalselt vist ainult 1 korra süüa, aga siiski selle korra jaoks ma ostsin Balti jaama turult köögivilju. Alguses ma tahtsin minna poodi ostma köögivilju, kuna see asus lähemal, aga minu üllatuseks olid poes väga paljud juur- ja köögiviljad pakendatud. Ma ei saa sellest aru, miks peab olema puu-, juur- või köögiviljad eraldi pakendatud, mis selle mõte on? Kas keegi oskab mulle lahti seletada? Kuna ma tahtsin siiski anda endast parima selle nädala jooksul, siis ma otsustasin jalutada Balti jaama turule. Ma ise olen enda üle uhke, et ma ei löönud käega. 3) Ma võin uhkusega teatada, et terve selle nädala jooksul ma ei jätnud ühtegi korda enda veepudelit ja termost koju. Need olid mul alati kaasas ning nendest ma ka koguaeg jõin. Siiski pean aus olema, et oli nii mõnigi hommik, kus isa või vend pidid mulle meelde tuletama, et ma need kaasa võtaksin. Ma ei ostnud ühtegi korda poest vett või siis kohvikust eraldi kohvitopsi kohvi. Enamasti ma tegin endale kodus kohvi kaasa ja rohkem päevas kohvi ei joonud. Paar korda ma ostsin Circle K'st kohvi enda termosesse. 4) Eesmärgiks seadsin vähemalt 1 korra turul käia ning see eesmärk sai ilusti ka täidetud, kuna 1 korra ma seal ka käisin. Oleksin muidugi tahtnud rohkem käia, aga nagu ma mainisin eespool, siis 1 nädal ei ole piisav aeg selleks eksperimendiks. 5) Jälgides teisi inimesi on vahepeal kurb vaadata, kui palju jäätmeid nad ikka tekitavad, et see ajab lausa nutu peale. Paar asja mida ma selle nädala jooksul märkasin: - Osad inimesed panevad näiteks 1 juur-, puu- või köögivilja eraldi kilekotti... see on lihtsalt šokeeriv! Mis selle porgandiga juhtuda saab, et nad selle eraldi kilekotti peavad panema? Käisin ühe sõbraga ükspäev poes ning vaatasin pealt, kuidas ta ostis poest 1 porgandi, 1 küüslaugu ja 1 sibula ning toppis need kõik eraldi kilekottidesse. Andke andeks.. aga mida? Ma hoidsin enda keelt hammaste taga, et talle mitte midagi öelda, aga see ikka väga häiris mind. - Koolis ringi käies on näha, kui paljud ikka ostavad kohvi topsidesse. Peale loengut on prügikast alati kohvitopse täis ja see on kurb, sest tegelikult on oma termost väga kerge kaasas kanda (kui sul on hea mälu või suurepärased pereliikmed, kes sulle meelde tuletavad). Kokkuvõtteks saab öelda, et eksperiment läks paremini, kui arvasin et läheb. Tuleb tunnistada, et minu jaoks osutus elu eksperimendi ajal palju soodsamaks, kui see muidu on. Kindlasti aitasid sellele kaasa snäkkidest hoidumine, kohvi mitte ostmine ja õe/ema juures söömine. Ma saan öelda, et see eksperiment aitas mul mõista, kui palju jäätmeid me igapäevaselt tekitame ning see oli minu jaoks koputus südametunnistusele. Kindlasti üritan ma nüüd igapäevaselt käituda loodussõbralikumalt ning hoiduda ebavajalikest jäätmetest, kuid siiski jäätmevaba elu hetkel minu graafikuga kokku ei sobi. Võib-olla kunagi tulevikus, kui on olemas oma kodu ja pere, oleks seda kergem praktiseerida. Edasised sammud, mida tahan teha: 1) Üritan siiski hakata kaasas kandma enda termost ja veepudelit. 2) Plaanin osta endale tükišampooni ja tükipalsami ning võib-olla hakkan lähiajal kasutama ka tükiseepi. 3) Kohe kindlasti üritan hoidada kilekottidest ning kannan poodi minnes kaasas enda riidest kotti. During this time, one cannot make a drastic change in one's life, and no special changes can be noticed in such a short time. It is also worth mentioning that because of this reason it was also very easy to cheat the system (I will explain more below). If someone else ever wants to do a similar experiment, I would definitely recommend taking at least 1 month for it. The longer, the better! The week started with an excursion to Eesti Pandipakend with a couple of project members. There we were told more about what Eesti Pandipakend does and how the recycling system really works. I learned that plastic bottles are being made into those plastic bottles that we see in the shop, only in the factory, where the product is also made. The reason being that when empty plastic bottles are being transported, there is no point in transporting air. (Picture of what the plastic bottles look like before the product (liquid) is inserted.) A plastic bottle can be made into a new plastic bottle, but it is also interesting that granules can be made from an empty plastic bottle, which can be made into flakes, which in the end can also be made into a cloth. This cloth can be made into sports shirts, fleece, vacuum bags or lanyards. An interesting fact is that it only takes 7 plastic bottles to make a sports shirt. We also had a tour of the Eesti Pandipakend factory, where we saw all sorts of sorting and other powerful machines. (The picture shows a machine that sorts the glass bottles in different colors.) PS! I also mention this here because I have seen that many people are doing the wrong thing. If you bring the bottles to the tare collecting point, then KEEP THE CAP ON! More from the experiment. At the beginning of the week I took a couple of goals that I wanted to accomplish during the week: 1) Don't buy meaningless things, that usually for me means different snacks. 2) When I go shopping, I try to avoid packaging. 3) Carry my own thermos and water bottle with me! 4) Go shopping at the market atleast once. 5) I'm also trying to keep track of what other people are doing around me. It has to be said that with my own goals I did quite well. Let's take it step by step: 1) Emotions - I was able to avoid everyday emotional shopping, but I want to mention that I did buy one big chocolate. This is a big deal for me, because I usually buy snacks basically EVERY DAY! Instead of all kinds of chocolates, candies and various salty snacks, I went to the Balti jaam Market once to buy some nuts (I am a student and need to calm the nerves somehow). 2) With buying food, I did a little bit of cheating, but before you judge me, let me explain! My sister and mother invited me to eat themselves, I didn't give them the idea. During the whole week I actually had to make food for myself only once, but for this I bought vegetables from the Balti jaam market. At first I wanted to go to the shop to buy vegetables because it was closer, but to my surprise, many vegetables were in packaging. I do not understand why the fruits or vegetables have to be packaged separately, what is the point? Can anyone explain to me? However, as I wanted to do my best this week, I decided to walk to the Balti jaam Market. I'm proud of myself for not giving up. 3) I can proudly announce that during the whole week I did not leave my water bottle or thermos at home. They were always with me and I drank from them all the time. However, I have to be honest that there were many mornings, where my father or brother had to remind me to take them with me. I didn't buy any water from the store or coffee from the coffee shop. Mostly I made coffee at home in the mornings and did not drink any more coffee during the day. A couple of times I bought a cup of coffee from Circle K with my own thermos. 4) I set myself a goal to go to the market at least once, and this goal was fulfilled because I went there once. I would, of course, have liked to go more than once, but as I mentioned above, 1 week is not enough time for this experiment. 5) Watching other people it is sad to see how much waste they make. A couple of things I noticed this week: - Some people, for example, put a separate plastic bag for vegetable or fruits... It's just shocking! What will happen to this carrot that they have to put it in a separate plastic bag? I went to a shop one day with a friend and looked at how he bought 1 carrot, 1 garlic and 1 onion in a shop and put them all in separate plastic bags. Forgive me .. but what? I kept my tongue behind my teeth and said nothing, but it still bothered me. - When you go to school, you can see how many students still buy coffee in cups. After the lecture, the trash can is always filled with coffee cups and it is sad because it is very easy to carry your own thermos with you (if you have a good memory or great family members to remind you). In conclusion, the experiment went better than I thought it would. It must be admitted that for me the life during experiment proved to be much more favorable than it would otherwise be. It definitely helped to save money by avoiding snacks, not buying coffee and eating with at my sisters / mothers house. I can say that this experiment helped me to understand how much waste we make every day and that was a knock on my conscience. I'm definitely trying to behave more eco friendly and avoid unnecessary waste, but at the moment, waste-free life doesn't fit with my schedule. Maybe in the future, if I have my own home and family, it would be easier to do. The next steps I want to take: 1) I will try to carry my own thermos and water bottle with me. 2) I plan to buy a piece of shampoo and a piece of balm for myself, and maybe I will also use a piece of soap in the near future. 3) Immediately, I try to keep away from plastic bags and carry my own cloth bag when going to the store. EST Eksperimendi esimese nädala ülesanne on käituda tavapäraselt ja oma harjumusi mitte muuta, mis kõlab üsna lihtsalt eksole... See muutus raskemaks, kui arvasin, kuna alateadvuses ma tean, et ma teen eksperimenti. Eks ma ikka tahan jätta hea mulje ja näidata, et elan üsna jäätme vabalt. Kahjuks on asi sellest siiski üsna kaugel, nagu dokumenteerides aru sain. Räägime siis teemadest, mida ma märkasin selle nädala jooksul: 1) Ma olen aru saanud, et ma olen väga laisk termose kasutaja või siis õigem oleks öelda kaasas kandja. Kuna ma joon üsna palju kohvi, on mul kodus olemas mitu termost, kuid ma alati unustan need koju. Keegi võiks välja mõelda termose, mis peseb ennast ise ära ja hüppab sulle ise puhtana kotti. Õnneks ma siiski kohvi kaasa väga palju ei osta, tavaliselt juhtub seda just ülikoolis. Aga märkasin, et üks kohvik, kus ma käin annab alati tavalise tassi asemel topsi (isegi, kui sa ütled neile, et sa jood kohapeal). 2) Ma olen inimene, kellele väga meeldib õppimise, filmi vaatamise, lugemise... olgem ausad... kõige kõrvalt natukene näksida ja tänu sellele ostan tihti poest midagi head koju kaasa. Tänu sellele võib julgelt öelda, et peamiseks prügiallikaks on just toidupakendid ja biojäätmed. Ma olen võtnud endale järgmise nädala eesmärgiks proovida osta snäkke kasutades enda nõusid. Eks näeb, kuidas sellega hakkama saan. 3) Enda igapäeva elus ma siiski sorteerin prügi ja viin ka taarat ära (kui seda tekib), kuna ma olen siiski vaene tudeng. Vee joomiseks kasutan tavaliselt enda spordipudelit, kuid tihti ununeb ka see koju ning tuleb jällegi poest vett osta. 4) Poes käies üritan ma kasutada enda riidest kotti või siis seljakotti. Kuna käin peaaegu iga päev trennis, siis on mul alati seljakott kaasas ja saan enamus ajast poest ostetud asjad sinna panna. Need olid põhilised asjad, mida ma olen märkanud enda igapäeva elus. Ma juba põnevusega ootan, kuidas ma järgmine nädal hakkama saan, proovides elada nii jäätme vabalt, kui võimalik. Enda järgmises prostituses ma sean endale mõned eesmärgid, mida ma tahan saavutada ning siis saan jooksvalt kirjeldada, kuidas nende eesmärkide täitmisega hakkama saan. Karolina, Noosootöö tudeng ENG On the first week of the experiment the assignment is to act normally and not change any habits, which sounds pretty easy, right… It turned out to be harder than I expected, because in the subconscious I know that I am doing an experiment. Of course I want to leave a good impression and show that I am living a zero waste life. Sadly, as I was documenting everything, I realised that in reality I am pretty far from it. Lets talk about the things I noticed during this week: 1) I understood that I am a very lazy thermos user or it would be better to say, carrier. Because I drink a lot of coffee, I have a lot of thermoses, but I always forget them at home. Somebody should invent a thermos that washed itself and jumps in your bag all clean. Luckily I don’t buy a lot of coffee to go, usually that happens when I go to university. But I noticed that one of the cafes that I go to always gives you a paper cup instead of a normal mug (even when you say that you are drinking it there). 2) I am a person who really enjoys snacking during studying, watching a movie, reading… lets be honest… during everything and that is why I always buy something good from the shop. Thanks to this I can say that for me the main source for waste is food packaging and bio-waste. I have taken a goal for the next week, that I will try to buy snacks using my own dishes. We will see how I will manage that.
3) In my everyday life I still sort my garbage and I also recycle my bottles (if there is any), because overall I am a poor student. I use my own sports bottle for drinking water, but often I forget about that too and then I have to buy water from the shop. 4) While going to the shop I try to use my own fabric bag or my own backpack. Because I have practice almost every day, I have my backpack always with me and most of the time I can put the stuff I buy in there. These are the main things I noticed in my everyday life. I am excited to see, how I will manage next week trying to live as zero waste as possible.
